I had the sleeve with Dr. Finnell back in 2014 when my BMI was over 50. The sleeve worked great for me — I lost 156 lbs and managed to keep it off for six years, even through having two kids, only gaining about 30 lbs that I couldn’t shed. Then, after being diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis, I gained almost 100 lbs back in just a year and a half. I started experiencing vomiting and aspirating in my sleep, which led me back to Dr. Finnell. He referred me to a GI doctor for an EGD, and then to another doctor in Denton. From what I now understand, my BMI being so high meant I should have had the DS instead of the sleeve, which likely led to these complications. I don’t share this to scare anyone — knowledge is power. Dr. Finnell is an amazing doctor, and if you’re considering surgery, definitely talk to him about all your options. My DS revision is scheduled for 7/20. Good luck with your journey!
