Overview

Dr. Cortés has a medical degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Centro América (UACA) in Costa Rica. She completed her internship and residency in general surgery at San Juan de Dios Hospital. Her specializations are gastroenterologic surgery and proctology, but she also has special training in advanced laparoscopy focusing on the areas of colorectal and bariatric surgery. Dr. Cortés’ extensive experience led her to found the Center for Research, Training, and New Techniques in Laparoscopy (CIELTA) which she currently directs, at the Universidad Autónoma de Centro America. She is an active member of the Board of Directors (University of Costa Rica) and a former general coordinator in the San Juan de Dios Hospital Post Graduate Program. She is also professionally associated to the Costa Rican College of Physicians.
