I had my surgery with Dr. Lau at Loyola University Hospital — he’s not only a great surgeon but also the head professor of bariatric surgery, which gave me a lot of confidence in my choice. The bariatric program is based at their Melrose Park office, but the surgery itself was done at the main hospital in Maywood. I had my surgery on 8/2, and every day I got better. By about two weeks, I felt “back to normal.” Their program moves pretty quickly compared to others I’ve seen — I was on puréed food by day 7, soft foods by week 2, and now at 5 weeks out, I’m on a regular diet. I’ve started reintroducing things slowly — tonight I even tried a couple ounces of meatloaf with mashed potatoes, and it was darn good, lol. I’m already down 41 pounds since surgery day, and I really can’t complain. Overall, the program and Dr. Lau have been fantastic, and I’d definitely recommend Loyola if you’re considering surgery.
