Dr. Ganta at NuSelf performed both my sleeve surgery and, later, my conversion to a duodenal switch. I truly owe my life to him and his team. I was morbidly obese and in poor health; the sleeve helped me lose a significant amount of weight, and the switch allowed me to lose the rest. While I have a lot of excess skin, the health benefits far outweigh the cosmetic concerns and for those who want it, the team also offers skin removal surgery. The duodenal switch feels different from the sleeve—it’s much more restrictive in how much food you can eat. I also can’t drink water or other liquids near mealtimes without feeling nauseated. Dense proteins affect me differently: chicken is easiest, pork can be more difficult, and steak requires slow, steady eating.
